Filipino film classics will be screened at the The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York this June

3 works by Brillante Mendoza will be screened, including the film that won Jaclyn Jose a Best Actress trophy at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, “Ma’ Rosa.” Ma’ Rosa

MoMA has selected 18 films by 13 directors for the month-long event. In the lineup are works by critically acclaimed directors Lav Diaz, Raya Martin, Brillante Mendoza, and more.

Brillante Mendoza, Best Director at 2017 Malaysia Global Awards

World-renowned filmmaker Brillante Mendoza bags another achievement for his 2016 film Ma’Rosa at the 2017 Malaysia Global Awards.

The film is about Rosa (Jaclyn Jose),  a mother who runs a small convenience store in a poor neighborhood of Manila where everybody likes her. To make ends meet, Rosa and her husband, Nestor, resell small amounts of drugs on the side. It  also earned Mendoza the same award at the 54th Gijón International Film Festival last year. “Ma’ Rosa” was also selected to compete for the Palme d’Or trophy at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, with Jose eventually clinching the Best Actress award there.

Aside from Mendoza, Philippine-Malaysian film “Singing In Graveyards” also bagged the Best Film award at the Malaysian Global Awards.

TV5 proudly announced its collaboration with Director Brillante “Dante” Mendoza, one of the most prominent Filipino filmmakers today.
He has produced a body of work that garnered awards and recognition from local and international film festivals.

Mapapanood once a month ang kanyang mga made-for-television movies sa “Brillante Mendoza Presents” exclusively made for TV5 na magsisimula na sa January 21, 2017.

At ang isa pa niyang obra, ang “AMO” isang 13-episode series na magsisimula naman sa Pebrero.

Brillante Mendoza, 54th Gijón International Film Fest Best Director

Brillante Mendoza bagged the Best Director accolade for his film “Ma’ Rosa” at the 54th Gijón International Film Festival in Spain on Sunday, November 27.

Mendoza collected his first international best director trophy at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2009 for his film “Kinatay.”

The International Jury of the 54th Gijón International Film Festival, chaired by Ms. Judith Colell and made up of Mr. David Matamoros, Ms. Kathleen Haney, Mr. Nima Javidi and Ms. Claudia Pinto has awarded the following prizes to the feature films participating in the Official Selection:

Ma’ Rosa is the Philippines’ official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 2017 Academy Awards.

Ma’ Rosa deals U.S. Distributor

Ma’ Rosa,” the country’s entry in the best foreign language film category of the Academy Awards, has found a distributor in the United States, filmmaker Brillante Ma Mendoza told the Inquirer.

First Run Features has acquired the US rights to the Filipino movie, which won best actress for Jaclyn Jose at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

“I’m glad that First Run is interested in our film,” Mendoza said. “The company has a good reputation as far as distributing art-house films is concerned.”
