The second edition of Sinag Maynila, the film festival conceptualized by Solar’s Wilson Tieng and internationally renowned film director Brillante Ma. Mendoza, kicks off a few months from now.

Sinag Maynila debuted successfully last year and Wilson hopes it would be as successful this year. “I couldn’t help but fear otherwise,” he said.

Of course, he’s banking on the merits of the five entries to make Sinag Maynila another film event to reckon with.

At the press launch held recently at NBA Café at SM Aura, Wilson stressed the difference between Sinag Maynila and other Philippine film festivals. “We help give our film entries international exposure. Some of our entries last year have been screened in international film festivals,” he said.

They also give generous financial grants to the directors to develop their stories into full-length movies.

The five entries to this year’s Sinag Maynila are: “Mrs.” by Adolf Alix, Jr., “Expressway” by Ato Bautista, “Dyamper” by Mes de Guzman, “T.P.O” by Joselito Altarejos, and “Lila” by Gino Santos.

“Mrs.” stars Elizabeth Oropesa, Lotlot de Leon, Rosanna Roces, Anita Linda and Mark Herras. “Expressway” has Alvin Anson, Aljur Abrenica and Kiko Matos in its lead cast. “Dyamper” has Carlo Aquino in the lead, while “T.P.O,” stars Oliver Aquino, Mara Lopez, Menggie Cobarrubias and Lui Manansala. “Lila” is headlined by Janine Gutierrez, Enchong Dee and Migs Cuaderno.

The 2016 Sinag Maynila will run from April 21-26.
