‘Tu Pug Imatuy,’ ‘Kristo’ lead Sinag Maynila winners

Arbi Barbarona’s “Tu Pug Imatuy” won six awards in the third Sinag Maynila Film Festival’s Gabi ng Parangal held Sunday, March 12 at the Samsung Theater at SM Aura Premier in Taguig City.

The indigenous drama won Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress for Malona Sulatan, Best Screenplay for Arnel Mardoquio, Best Cinematography for Bryan Jimenez and Barbarona himself and Best Music also for Barbarona.

Inspired by actual events, “Tu Pug Imatuy” tackles the Manobo tribe’s struggles against environment plunder and the militarization of their communities.

PPL Block screening of Ma’ Rosa at The Podium

Held at The Podium, Ma’ Rosa block screening happened last July 11. It was around 5 p.m when media and celebrities started arriving at the venue.

The 2016 Cannes best actress, Ms. Jaclyn Jose and her daughter, Andie Eigenmann were among the casts present.

Celebrities were also spotted in the film screening.

An invitational screening of Ma’ Rosa took place at SM Light Mall, Mandaluyong City last July 4. Invited guests and media started arriving at around 5 p.m.

Present in the event are the cast and crew of Ma’ Rosa and the Solar executives.

Ma’ Rosa Invitational Screening at S’ Maison, Conrad Manila

Another invitational screening of Ma’ Rosa was held at the S’ Maison Director’s Club in Conrad Hotel, Manila on July 1.  The guests started arriving an hour before the screening for cocktails. It was a hectic Friday evening when celebrities and people from the media arrived one by one.

Mae Paner aka Juana Change, a political activist was also present at the event. On her Facebook post, she wrote “From beginning to end nakadagan sa dibdib ko si Ma Rosa. Kaya pala best actress ng Cannes si Jaclyn Jose. Congrats Direk Brillante Mendoza. Lumuha ako para sa mga biktima ng droga. Nainis ako sa sistema. Sana mapanuod ito ni Pres. Du30. At sana i-endorso niya ito. Opens July 6”.

Ma’ Rosa Invitational Screening at Director’s Club, SM Megamall

An invitational screening of internationally-acclaimed Brillante Mendoza’s Ma’Rosa happened last night, June 28 at SM Megamall Director’s Club. The event was graced by the presence of the cast and crew, distinguished guests from the media and the director himself, Mr. Brillante Mendoza.

The evening started with cocktails at the Director’s Club lobby upon the arrival of guests and friends from the media. Among the press people who were present at the event were:

After which, guests were asked to enter the cinema to formally start the screening. Mr. Brillante, together with Mr. Julio Diaz, Mr. Baron Geisler and Mr. Aaron Rivera were invited up front for a photo op.

Imago, an official entry to the 69th Cannes Film festival – short film category directed by Raymund Ribay Gutierrez was up first, in an effort to showcase the homegrown talent of Brillante’s student, followed by the critically-acclaimed Ma’ Rosa.

The guests were astounded by the versatility of the film that led to numberous round of applauses towards the end, giving their nod of satisfaction and congratulatory handshakes to Mr. Brillante Mendoza for his marvelous direction of the said film.

Catch Ma’ Rosa in theaters nationwide on July 6.
