Award-winning director covers DU30’S SONA

The State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte tackled numerous topics, starting with previous governments faults to unilateral ceasefire and human rights, even global warming.

But the highlight of the president’s SONA was none other than crimes, most specifically drugs, the pushers and users. And how the drug lords aren’t here in the country but outside the Philippines. He talked about programs that would help stop the use of drugs, stating that, “The reservists will be mobilized for information campaign against drug use and the dissemination of information regarding drug rehabilitation programs being offered by the government.”

From the moment he started campaigning to the present time, drug related stories have been all over the news. With that being said, acclaimed director, fresh from Cannes 2016 film festival, Brillante Mendoza stepped up and offered to cover the presidents SONA for free.

His film Ma’Rosa, that bagged Jaclyn Jose her Best Actress award, can be related to what DU30 aims to resolve as one of this countries problem.

This years SONA is unlike any other, as the director said in his previous interviews that he wishes to show the real Duterte. Showing off some camera angles that caught a lot of the viewers attention, when asked about his chosen angles, Mendoza said, “It shows power, and we want to show power, we want to show a powerful president, di ba? Yun ang kanyang mensahe. That he’s in control and that he knows what he’s talking [about]. So pag ganun yung shot it means power. Maaaring hindi pa yun nakikita pero psychologically yun yung mararamdaman ng tao.”
