World-renowned filmmaker Brillante Mendoza bags another achievement for his 2016 film Ma’Rosa at the 2017 Malaysia Global Awards.
The film is about Rosa (Jaclyn Jose), a mother who runs a small convenience store in a poor neighborhood of Manila where everybody likes her. To make ends meet, Rosa and her husband, Nestor, resell small amounts of drugs on the side. It also earned Mendoza the same award at the 54th Gijón International Film Festival last year. “Ma’ Rosa” was also selected to compete for the Palme d’Or trophy at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, with Jose eventually clinching the Best Actress award there.
Aside from Mendoza, Philippine-Malaysian film “Singing In Graveyards” also bagged the Best Film award at the Malaysian Global Awards.
