MA’ ROSA is a strong contender for OSCARS

AwardsCircuit.com ranked 30 of the 85 films submitted for Oscar consideration and the Philippine rep landed on the ninth spot.

“Ma’ Rosa” was included in the category Other Top-Tier Contenders, along with Mexico’s “Desierto,” Poland’s “The Lure,” Israel’s “Sand Storm” and Saudi Arabia’s “Barakah Meets Barakah.”

85 countries have submitted films for consideration in theForeign Language Film category for the 89th Academy Awards®.  Yemen is a first-time entrant.

Ma’ Rosa, by Brillante Mendoza is Philippines’ entry.

MA’ ROSA in London and Busan

“Ma’ Rosa” is currently showing at the 60th BFI (British Film Institute) London Film Festival in the United Kingdom, from Oct. 5 to 16. It is the only Filipino entry in the lineup included in the “Debate” section.

Ma’ Rosa, which won Jaclyn Jose the Best Actress award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, was recently chosen as the Philippines’ official entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category in the upcoming 2017 Oscars.

There are nine Filipino delegates to the 21st Busan International Film Festival (IFF)

Filipino films to be shown in A Window on Asian Cinema are: Brillante  Mendoza’s “Ma’ Rosa,” Ato Bautista’s “Expressway” and Anton Juan’s “Woven Wings of Our Children.”
