Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2016: Reflections

The Tokyo International Film Festival & the Japan Foundation has join three excellent directors, Mendoza (Philippines), Yukisada (Japan) and Kulikar (Cambodia) to create an omnibus film called “Reflections”. The film will highlights the theme of “living in Asia,” with three works that depict the lives of characters who journey between Japan and Cambodia, the Philippines and Malaysia.

New Brillante Mendoza work to screen at Tokyo film fest

Brillante Mendoza’s #SHINIUMA (Dead Horse) is part of the Asian Three-Fold 2016: Reflections film series co-produced by the Tokyo International Film Festival and Japan Foundation Asia Center.

Mendoza’s “Shiniuma (Dead Horse)” which stars Lou Veloso, tells the story of an illegal Filipino immigrant in Japan who returns to his homeland for the first time in decades after being deported.

Brillante Mendoza film picked as Philippine entry to 2017 Oscars

MANILA – The Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) has chosen Brillante Ma. Mendoza’s “Ma’ Rosa” as the official entry of the Philippines to the 2017 Academy Awards.

It was chosen to vie for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 89th Academy Awards, which is slated to happen on February 27, 2017 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

MET launches exhibition on int’lly-acclaimed director Brillante Mendoza

Internationally-acclaimed Filipino director Brillante Mendoza is part of the first of a series of exhibitions lined up in the last quarter of the year to celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Manila’s 40th anniversary.

Brillante Mendoza: A Contemporary Filipino Filmmaker showcases the full length films, documentaries and other productions like television commercials that have made Mendoza the celebrated filmmaker that he is today. This collection is complemented by film posters and video production equipment that the director himself designed and utilized in his work. Curated by Prof. Leo Abaya, this exhibition is organized in partnership with SM and Center Stage Productions, with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Epson Philippines, PowerMac Center, Max’s Restaurant and Manny O Wines. The exhibition will be on view from September 5 to October 1, 2016.

Several Pinoy films have already been shortlisted from which one will be submitted to represent the country in the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 89th Academy Awards happening on Feb. 26, 2017.

These are: Gil Portes’ “Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli,” Jun Lana’s “Anino sa Likod ng Buwan,” Erik Matti’s “Honor Thy Father,” Paul Soriano’s “Dukot,” Eduardo Roy, Jr.’s “Pamilya Ordinaryo,” Joel Lamangan’s “Felix Manalo,” Lav Diaz’s “Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis,” Brillante Mendoza’s “Ma’ Rosa” and Roderick Cabrido’s “Tuos.”

Brillante Mendoza: A Retrospective Exhibit

Brillante Mendoza has been known for having etched out a Filipino space in the global landscape of cinema, now the Metropolitan Museum of Manila hosts his very first local retrospective exhibit.

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila held an exclusive preview of the Brillante Mendoza: A Contemporary Filipino Filmmaker exhibit last Saturday, September 3, 2016. This exhibit is a part of the museum’s celebration of its 40th anniversary, which will feature further exhibitions that aim to commemorate the development of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Art Collection, among many others.
